VETERANS’ HOME CARE PROGRAM

Tandem Respite Inc (Tandem) has been contracted to provide support to the veteran community of the ACT through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) Program.  The VHC Program assists those veterans and war widows/widowers who wish to continue living at home, but who need a small amount of practical help.  Tandem provides the following support services to VHC clients: domestic assistance, personal care and respite care.

Domestic Assistance

Domestic assistance provides help with household activities such as household cleaning, dishwashing, clothes washing & ironing and bed making.

Personal Care

Personal Care includes assistance with daily self-care tasks such as dressing, grooming, showering/toileting, assistance with eating, assistance with mobility and passive exercises.

Respite Care

In-home respite care is designed to provide relief for a carer who has responsibility for a person requiring ongoing care, attention or support. In-home respite care may also include Emergency Short Term Home Relief (ESTHR). In-home respite care may include supervision, companionship, prompting to take medication, assistance with daily activities or tasks that the carer would normally do if present.

Eligibility

To be assessed for VHC services a person must be:

  • An Australian veteran or mariner or
  • A war widow/widower of an Australian veteran or mariner;

And have:

  • A Repatriation Health Card – For All Conditions (Gold Card) or
  • A Repatriation Health Card – For Specific Conditions (White Card)
