Meet the Board

Tandem’s Board has responsibility for setting strategic direction, ensuring legal compliance and accountability, and guiding management of the organisation to meet its stated objectives.  For this to be achieved it is important to have a Board that offers a wealth of experience, diversity and enthusiasm.   Tandem is fortunate that the members of the inaugural Board offer these strengths that are assisting Tandem to move forward.

The Board comprises 12 members with at least three being client representatives.  Members are elected at the Annual General Meeting on a three year rotating basis.

President, Peter Gordon runs a business development company, specialising in knowledge based institutions and in working with government on development issues. Peter was previously a senior executive with the ACT and other governments in business engagement and training.
Secretary and Public Officer, Karen Noble, has vast experience in social work and education and currently combines the two with her responsibilities for the CIT Skills for Carers Program.
Treasurer, Cath Sutton, is an accountant with many years experience as a finance and administration adviser to industry associations and commercial enterprises.
Member, Tyler Ellis, is involved in a number of boards and community organisations and is a keen sportsperson. He is a young man with a physical disability, who is a strong advocate for people with disabilities being socially included.
Member, Steve Dascarolis established Decca Building Group in 2003 with brother, Michael and since then DBG has been heavily involved in the Canberra construction scene. In addition to his role as Director of DBG, Steve is also sole Director of Westtech Holdings P/L holding the position of Development Manager.
Member, Mark Vergano, a former teacher and stockbroker is currently the CEO of ACT Cricket and serves on the Board of ACTsport focusing on the Disabilities Services Program. Two of his six children use Tandem’s services.
Catherine Argall PSM is presently retired and is serving on three not-for-profit Boards in the ACT – two in the disability sector and one in the welfare rights/legal area.

Before retirement, Catherine was CEO of Medicare Australia for four years following more than eight years as General Manager of the Child Support Agency. During a career of thirty eight years with the Australian Public Service she held senior roles across a broad range of Agencies and Departments with a focus on service delivery transformation.

Member, Jean McIntyre currently heads the Canberra office of Marketing Angels and brings on board years of marketing and management experience. Jean’s previous work assisting other community organisations won her the ‘Outstanding Community Spirit Award’ from the Chamber of Women in Business.
Member, Joan Ross is currently carer for her husband who has Hypoxic Brain Injury. She is a manager in the Budget Group within the Department of Finance and Deregulation working part time in the Strategic Policy Division. Her public sector career has included Human Rights Complaints handling, development work on Disability Discrimination Act Standards for employment and education and program management of Job Network.
Member, Patrick White has entered into partnership in opening and acquiring a number of pharmacies over the last 15 years in the ACT region; culminating in the formation of the partnership’s own pharmacy brand, the Australian Pharmacy Group.Patrick is now a member of several pharmacy, business and community focused committees including the ‘Community Living Project’ – a building project for young people with an intellectual disability.

 

Former  President, Ron Kingsbury, resigned from the Tandem Board on 27 October 2010.  Ron is known to many for his tireless years of service to the not-for-profit community, serving on numerous Boards. He received an Order of Australia (OAM) in 2003 in recognition of this.
